Supported by the Romanian Film Centre and Babel Communications, this annual event is meant to reward the best Romanian contemporary filmmakers, as well as to pay a tribute to domestic film industry legends.

The 5th edition of Gopo Awards



This year’s celebration of the very best in Romanian Cinematography will take place on March 28, 2011.

Inspired by the prestigious Goya, Cesar or Bafta, Gopo Awards is an annual event that honors the greatest achievements in Romanian Film Industry.

During the first four editions, remarkable individuals working in the film industry were rewarded for their outstanding achievement. In 2010, Police adjective won no less than 6 awards in categories including Best Film, Best Director (Corneliu Porumboiu), Best Script, Best actor in a leading role (Dragos Bucur), Best actor in a supporting role (Vlad Ivanov) and Best Cinematography (Marius Panduru). The Concert, by Radu Mihaileanu took home 4 trophies, for Best original music score (Armand Amar), Best film editing (Ludo Troch), Best Production Design (Cristian Niculescu) and Best make-up and hair (Michelle Constantinides, Dana Bu┼čoiu, Catherine Crassac, Adelina Popa).

The submissions for the 5th edition nominations will take place between 20-28 January 2011.

Romanian filmmakers are invited to fill in the application form, which can be found on www.premiilegopo.ro and send it to andrada.romagno@premiilegopo.ro. A copy of the DVD screener of the movie subscribed will be sent either by post or courier at Romanian Film Promotion's office: Popa Soare st, no 52, 2nd district, Bucharest.

Short length films, feature films and documentaries are eligible for the 2011 Gopo Awards nominations; Romanian productions and co-productions (which include a majority Romanian support). The films must have been screened in Film Festivals, Cinemas or on TV channels from Romania during January 1st- December 31, 2010. According to the new rules, feature length documentaries and narrative features screened in cinemas in 2010 qualify for the following prize categories: Best film, Best Director, Best original music, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Sound.

Also, Romanian Film Promotion announces a new award category: Best narrative feature debut.

The nominations for all categories will be established by a jury comprised of 11 members (film critics, filmmakers) and will be announced on February 21, during a press conference. After the announcements, over 400 Romanian filmmakers will have the chance of voting for their favorites, online or by post, thanks to a voting system created by the global professional services firm .PricewaterhouseCoopers,

Gopo Awards is organized by Romanian Film Promotion, with the support of Babel Communications and The National Centre of Cinematography.
